Father's Day Ride, 2023

Although I didn't ride the Iron Butt 1000, there was a side benefit- I was in good shape on Sunday to ride with my kids. 😎

Bob’s Blister Butt 1000, 17Jun2023

This morning at 5am, 7 riders from OMC set off on a 1,000 mile ride, Bob’s Blister Butt. This is a qualifying event for https://www.ironbutt.org/. I’ve done one of these many years ago. It’s serious stuff. They plan to be back in Oakland around midnight. my bike was packed and ready to go, but after a crappy sleep and busy week I don't trust my stamina. Keeping up with retired folks is tough!

Restart, 08June2023

Since my last post on this blog (now retitled from Motordad to Motosquirrel), much has happened but I'm back to Blogger. For several years I paid for a Wordpress site on Bluehost at motordad.com, but have let it lapse for a few reasons: 1. It was a little expensive 2. I wasn't posting very frequently 3. Wordpress is very capable, but frankly too complicated for my needs, and uploading photos and linking videos became tedious I will try to backfill this fall from Wordpress posts I've saved and add them here. My immediate purpose in starting this up again addresses an upcoming trip to Italy with Cat McLeod and a likely Iron Butt Association ride with Oakland Motorcycle Club. Here's a brief travelogue since my Oct2013 post about the ride after leaving 14 years at Applied Biosystems. 2014-2015 worked at Illumina 2015-2016 worked at Bayer Pharma in Berkeley 2016-2017 worked at IntegenX, prior to its acquisition by Thermo Fisher 2017-2018 worked at Pacfic Biosciences 2019 returned to Thermo Fisher 2019 rode in Germany, France and Japan with colleagues 2022 rode in Singapore and Malaysia again with old motorycle friends there Around 2017 got a great dog named Whiskey who likes to hike and kayak Joined IFMR from 2018-2022 and Oakland Motorcycle Club in 2022, also BMW MOA Norcal. The short version of my motorcycle progress is 2001 Honda ST1100 to 2007 ST1300, then 2007 BMW R1200GS and now 2009 R1200GSA. Other stuff to come soon.
